Phở Dậu, a well kept secret of old Saigon

Phở Dậu, nestled in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, has been a go-to spot for many Saigonese since before the independence of Vietnam. This iconic establishment, now run by newer generations of the founding family, continues to honor its heritage by using the same traditional techniques from its early days.

Phở Dậu, located in an alleyway of district 3 saigon has been the go-to breakfast spot for Saigonese since before Independence. This hidden gem has ran in the family of a local Saigonese for 3 generations since it's founding and continues to honor it's heritage by maintaining the same shop, using the same techniques and the reluctance to expand regardless of success.

Phở Dậu boasts a unique broth a distinct taste that doesn’t conform to typical Northern or Southern Vietnamese pho styles, prepared from rich bone marrow without the use of MSG is left simmering overnight. While the absence of traditional spices like cloves, cinnamon, and star anise might surprise some, it’s precisely this clean and beef-forward taste that many find appealing.

Everybowl comes with a side of raw onions which is usually mixed with northern style chilli sauce, fish sauce, sugar and lime, a surprizingly pleasant combination for first timers. Frequented by locals and visitors alike, the restaurant tends to be busy, especially in the mornings. Its rich broth, traditional preparation methods, and family legacy make it a must-visit for anyone looking to taste a piece of Saigonese history.
